Hi there! I just joined. :) I'm not sure if my question is totally relevant to the topic of aromatherapy, but I'll ask here anyway. If anyone can direct me to a more relevant community, please do!

I want to start making my own essential oils and I'd like to start with peonies. I love the scent but it's very rare to find it in perfumes. I've never made my own essential oils before, so I want to make sure I do it right. I found a tutorial here that is within the realm of my ability (and student budget), but I'm not sure how good of a tutorial it is. Is there anything I should do differently? Anything I should add? Is there anything there that's unnecessary? Or will it do the trick? Step 3 calls for a carrier oil, and I've been using jojoba oil (for non-perfume purposes) for several months now. Will jojoba oil do the trick?

Thanks for any help/advice!

Relaxation/Stress relief
Hey everyone. I am looking for a scent or various scents that will help me to relax after a stressful day. I am working 2 jobs and currently my fiance and I are in a bad situation financially which is causing me to be stressed non-stop all the time. I have trouble with LAVENDER and LILAC scents. They trigger my migraines.

Any advice?

Young Living products
I am new to this community and I admit that I only joined to ask this question:

Young Living is a MLM structured company that sells essential oils. In general I have a skepticism of MLM companies - at the least I wonder if the products are overpriced as a result of the MLM structure.

I have a family member who has requested a series of Young Living products and I am wondering if they are any good.

I saw a "quackwatch" article that further concerned me regarding these products.

Can anyone here tell me about the quality of the products and whether they are worth the price (some websites list 10ml of essential oils at between $10 to $20, the Young products run about $70 to $200 for the same quantity).

I thank you in advance for your comments and time.

this is my photo of my dolly... :)

Hi guys and girls, as you must already take for granted (which is good!) is our freedom to love. Right now our rights are being stolen away, little by little, and our lifestyles are under the attack. Please read this and use your young and energetic minds to do and think of ways to combat this evil so that we can all enjoy what we love.

I got his e-mail, it's extremely important! If you live on this planet Earth, then you MUST make yourself aware of this growing pandemic! Please read all the way through this before you judge anyone. I left off the last name of the person who wrote this email so he won't be bombarded with hate mail, everything else is copied and pasted exactly how it is in the e-mail I got.

For the livejournal community goers, I realise this might be seen as spam, but I assure you, it’s not. This is not a chain mail or spam or hate mail, this is an e-mail I got personally from an odler gentleman who is very wise and very brave. I realise it might get deleted, which is exeedingly deplorable, scince no one will be exempt from the pervasive evil from the US and other nations, and everyone needs to know. This is one of the only ways I can get as many people’s attention as possible, so please don’t delete this, please read it, research it, and don’t scoff just becuase it’s shocking. I would not being doing this if I didn’t care about each and every person in this community!

It's very important that you copy and paste this into word program and print it out. Share this information with everyone you know and don't worry about looking foolish, the only thing you are doing is offering them a chance to get some information about the government.

God or Goddess Bless. (or anything else you believe in, because as a human being you have the right to believe in whatever you want).

My wife, Jackie, says she concurs with everything I say in this e-mail . . .

Foreign troops are now on U.S. soil -- Jackie and I already encountered one of their arrogant minions Sunday in Southern Oregon. He was on a BMW motorcycle with a small ISAF logo on the windshield; and we later saw a Dutch Army van headed south on Interstate 5 the same day.

While this may come as a great SURPRISE to some of you: We are about to go under martial law -- probably next month. I hope and PRAY that I'm wrong, but I don't think I am. All the evidence around us points to it -- the economy has collapsed, the dollar is at zero and about to be discarded, there is a swine flu fear-mongering hoax gaining momentum (but the swine flu "vaccine" is very real, and VERY DEADLY), almost daily, we are being HEAVILY chemtrailed here in the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon with barium and aluminum and other toxins which are binary catalysts to weaken our immune systems, to be triggered by the toxic swine flu "vaccine." I would strongly advise you to take lots of Vitamin D-3 to prepare for the coming onslaught (which Jackie and I have been doing for more than a year along with natural sunlight) -- and there are foreign troops RIGHT NOW on our soil!

Until the Internet is shutdown (which will also happen very soon to keep us Americans from communicating amongst ourselves) I STRONGLY urge everyone to listen DAILY now to Alex Jones' Internet radio show -- http://www.gcnlive.com/mediaPlayers/odPlayer.php?program=alexJones -- ESPECIALLY TODAY, Tuesday, September 22, 2009 (sorry it's so late in the day getting this written and sent) -- as the pathological killers of the new world order are exponentially ramping-up for martial law and forced vaccination (and gun-grabbing) with NO due process of law, whatsoever -- ALL as our Constitutional rights are now termite-ridden. They mean business, and so should you . . . IF you don't want to be blind-sided. It is up to you to pay heed and educate yourselves NOW, because . . . it is imminent!

READ THIS WELL -- it may be hard to even BELIEVE for some of you -- but, this is what's happening NOW: Brainwashed "law-enforcement" personnel on goon "God-trips," and naive, uninformed military recruits (against the Constitutional Posse Commitatus law) with police dogs and helicopters are already in some of our cities with their dogs barking at passers-by -- AND: 279,000 foreign troops are NOW on U.S. soil (many of whom you can spot on the Interstate Highway system riding BMW motorcycles). Prepare now.

Jackie and I actually had a brief encounter Sunday, while camping up in the mountains, with one of those foreign military assholes on a red BMW motorcycle (a very rare purchase in the USA, as some of you might know) with a small, barely-discernable logo sticker that said ISAF on its small windshield {and when Jackie saw the ending-letter "F" on his sticker, she asked, "What fire department are you with?" -- and he side-stepped that question and off-handedly tried to stutter out an answer, finally deciding upon: "It's just a motorcycle club . . . " Jackie and I already knew about the BMW motorcycle troops from callers in other parts of the U.S. to the Alex Jones Internet radio show.

This motorcyclist SAID he was a Canadian (he might have been), and he was DEFINITELY a military "type" -- and, as a former Naval Aviator, I KNOW 'em, I can spot 'em . . . I WAS military. He also appeared to be working in conjunction with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office who was cruising around us simultaneously, watching . . . This guy was "phishing," and pushy, and he kept trying to get us talking about our "politics," but we just clammed-up, and he finally saw he was getting nowhere with us and packed up and left] -- and, THEN, later: Jackie and I even saw a Dutch Army van on I-5 heading south between Medford and Ashland, the very same day, Sunday). How did we know it was Dutch Army? Well . . . that's what the big sign on it said (duh!) in blue U.N. colors. They are "conditioning" us and softening us up to acquiesce to them . . . pretty blatant of them, though, eh? It's all part of their initial "psy-op" against us.

BTW: for those of you who don't know what ISAF stands for (the logo on the troops' BMW motorcycles), that's: International Security Assistance Force -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Security_Assistance_Force -- and that's ALSO: United Nations and NATO foreign troops, FOLKS -- (I apologize for using Wikipedia as a source, as it would've been rejected by my M.B.A. professors, but it's a pretty comprehensive explanation, nevertheless).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8UTRVlxRLE Dutch army! ( ISAF ) This is a youtube link abut the Dutch Army in America.

The ISAF was originally set up in 2001 by the united nations security council (I flat REFUSE to capitalize it) to be in Afghanistan, but, my theory is, they've been diverted to the USA to help subjugate US -- We The People of the United States of America. Otherwise, WHY else would the U.S. commander in Afghanistan be "calling" for more U.S. troops to be sent to Afghanistan??? (Hint: so our own troops won't be here to protect US. As soon as that last contingent of good ol' U.S. military forces leaves our shores, the ISAF dogs will be unleashed on US!)

Americans started calling-in from different parts of the country a couple of weeks ago to the Alex Jones Internet radio show about ALSO encountering these foreigners riding around on BMW motorcycles, and now they're here in Southern Oregon! Do you think they're just Europeans on vacation? Go figure some more . . .

My friends and family: this is all part of a diabolical plan (that I realize is too-difficult for many of you to get your genteel, civilized minds around [believe me, I don't want to absorb it, either!], because it's just TOO DIABOLICAL to accept, and many of you will refuse to even read any further, I know) to enforce their Luciferian scheme of mass murdering or putting the U.S. citizenry in concentration camps (FEMA CAMPS!) to turn the USA over to the United Nations and its troops (German army, too -- former East German soldiers) -- troops who will have NO QUALMS about firing on U.S. citizens when our OWN troops wouldn't have the stomach for it -- even if unlawfully ordered to do so -- while our OWN loyal U.S. troops (the ones who have HONORED their Constitutional oaths) have been sent to Iraq and Afghanistan (to fight for who knows what: oil and the opium trade?) -- they will NOT be brought home to defend us, the American people. Why do you think most of good troops are overseas right now??? This was a promise that Henry Kissenger made to the Council on Foreign Relations (I'm sorry I can't find the link to that right now, 'cause I'm in a hurry to get this info out to you): that the U.S. would be turned over to the U.N. by September (he's slightly behind schedule).

Alex Jones (I'm NOT apologizing for being repetitive with the link to his daily Internet radio program) -- http://www.gcnlive.com/mediaPlayers/odPlayer.php?program=alexJones -- is interviewing doctors right now, TODAY, who are strongly advising, in no uncertain terms, NOT to take ANY kind of vaccinations (including Gardasil, which is killing SCORES of young women already) -- and that goes for your kids and our/MY grandchildren, too (but only IF you want them [and yourselves, as well] healthy and whole-hide)! It is up to you as to how cavalier and "kewl" you wish to be about all this. Ignore it if you want . . . and forever regret it. If you take the swine flu shot, you're doomed.

Tell ALL your friends and family (brain-dead, or not!) to WAKE UP, too! While some of them may mock you (just as some of you CLOSEST to ME have derided ME [I don't have to name names: you know who you are] and laugh at you, they will NOT learn the truth about what's REALLY going on in the world and our country if they keep watching and/or listening to sports and so-called "news" on TV and radio (no matter which channel or frequency it may be -- it's ALL corporate controlled by the power-elite)!

I don't care WHAT you think of ME -- and yet, I think a lot of all of YOU! That's why you're getting this e-mail.

Please do not mis-interpret this as yet another ho-hum, Chicken Little, "The Sky Is Falling" message from Max. AMERICA IS FALLING! If you are receiving this e-mail, it's because I care about you. Even if you've been deleting all my e-mails up until now, this is one you should definitely heed and save . . . OR, just keep your heads buried in the sand -- it's up to you.

PLEASE: Shortcut the following link on your desktop and don't lose it. Again, I am very serious! I don't want any of you, my wonderful friends, to be blindsided by the pure HELL that's being unleashed on us -- even as you're reading this. Here's the link to listen to what's REALLY going on in the world at ANY TIME OF THE DAY OR NIGHT (as long as it lasts) -- it plays in a continuous loop for 24 hours, until 9 a.m. Pacific/11 a.m. Central, at which time he starts the new program and interviews for the day: http://www.gcnlive.com/mediaPlayers/odPlayer.php?program=alexJones

Also, go to Dr. Len Horowitz's website: www.fluscam.com -- and ALWAYS, but ALWAYS, check the articles that keep changing (sometimes, hourly) on Alex Jones' web sites of: www.infowars.com and www.prisonplanet.com -- unlike what is on the mainstream media network of lies, none of it is based on mere opinion and/or coverup: it is ALL based upon the facts (harsh as those facts are). This is REALITY, I'm so sorry to say.

My Favorite Things
Here is a blend using a few of my favorite things:

6 drops rose absolute (diluted)
2 drops patchouli
2 drops vanilla (diluted)
1 drop jasmine (diluted)

The diluted ones are the Aura Cacia oils in jojoba. I wish I could afford the pure stuff. In this blend, only the patchouli is full strength.

I use this blend in my shower scrub, consisting of sugar and honey.

EO/carrier oil ratio for oil burners
Hi everyone, I'm so glad that I found this community. I've been researching aromatherapy for quite some time now, and started blending a few months ago.

What I'm having problems is - I'll make a blend that smells wonderful, put it in my oil burner, and I won't smell anything. I've tried increasing the EO to carrier ratio, but still nothing.
What should the ratio be? Should I use almost no carrier oil?

Thanks for your help!

New blend my skin loves
1 drop black pepper
2 drops fennel
3 drops sweet orange

Inspired by Mexican Sweet Chili Tea by Yogi Tea.

I use it in a scrub made of sugar and honey. My skin is oily/overproductive. I'm not a huge fan of the scent of fennel, but I always seem to respond favorably to the properties of the oil.

Most of my blends end up in this ratio, 1:2:3. I don't have the most discerning nose, so this is a simple formula that gives me a starting place.

Recipes for RomanceCollapse )

I haven't had a chance to try these out, but they sound amazing!

This brings me to a question: I don't have any pure rose, only 5% Rose Absolute. If I was going to make a massage blend with rose, how many drops would I use to substitute the dilution for a single drop of pure rose? My weak math intuition is telling me 20, but that seems...excessive.

Just wanted to let the members here know that one of my favorite aromatherapy sites is having a half-off sale. I love this company, they're a small outfit with a wonderful staff! They have an amazing assortment of essential oils.

Please know that I am not affiliated with this site in any way, shape or form. I'm just a very satisfied customer of many years!

I ahve recently bought some tea tree oil and some eucalyptus [[oil?]]. I have mixed each in seperate jars with some epsom salts for a stress relieving bath.
I was wondering if there is anything else I cant use these for. I know tea tree oil is good for your skin, but other than that, what can I do with it?

Also, what other scents are good stress relievers?

Year's end
What was your favorite blend(s) of the year?

--Mine was blending brown and pink oils for skincare: sandalwood, patchouli, or cedarwood with geranium or rose. I also discovered the wonders of eucalyptus in a diffuser for allergies or sluggishness.

Any new oils will you be exploring for the new year?

--Juniper and frankincense for me.
8:09 pm
My Christmas gift to myself was a small bottle of frankincense. I'm a little intimidated by it, however. I've used the essential oil blended with jojoba for prayers before going to sleep, and I kind of don't want to ruin that association that frankincense = deep and holy relaxation and safety. But I'm curious to hear how other people use it.

Essential Oils and Wax
I'm  making little spa boxes for my family and friends for Yule/Christmas, and I am going to include some tealights in them. Now, here is my question: Is it possible to melt the wax using a candle warmer, put in some essential oils, and then let it reharden? Can you even use essential oils in wax? I just remember that my previous adventures in candle making included fragrance oils, not essential oils and I would like to keep the ingredients I am using to natural things.

Six weeks
As a student and a musician, mid-November to Christmas is always a crazy time for me. Finishing up my graduate degree and pulling two churches through the Advent/Christmas season means a lot on my plate. As the days get darker and colder, I find myself wanting to just curl up with a good book and a cup of tea, when I need to be going into overdrive right now.

What are your favorite oils or blends for focus and mental stamina?

Liver Detox?
I work with Essential Oils just about every day. Being a Massage Practitioner I know in Chinese Traditional Medicine, if you can't fall asleep until 1 am - 3 am, it indicates liver problems. We all know too much exposure to EO's can be taxing on your Liver. What can I do about it?

EDIT: I wasn't specific enough, I use Essential Oils making Natural Aromatheraputic Body Products. It's my Etsy business. I use EOs with massage too, but I'm not working mainly with massage yet.
So I'm infusing herbs, I'm cooking up recipes with EOs and inhaling the steam all the time. This is what I meant. Sorry I wasn't more specific the first time. :)

Red Wood Oil
A fellow Massage Therapist went on a trip and got some Red wood oil. But he doesn't know the benefits of it. Would anyone happen to know? I can't find anything online, and another past classmate of our couldn't find anything on it either.
